PUNK SOCIETY / DECLARATION OF MUTINY

Stop tolerating compliance theatre.

This manifesto is the operating order for anyone who refuses to keep apologising for neurodivergent wiring. It’s the war brief for policy teams, founders, regulators, and rebels who need proof that “inclusive by default” is still fiction. Circulate it until cognitive accessibility becomes a budget line, not a footnote.

Why this exists

Public and private services still run on a neurotypical fantasy. They assume infinite executive function, flawless memory, and gratitude for punishment when we slip. That fiction causes bankruptcies, burnout, and funerals.

This manifesto names the hostile patterns, sets the scoring rules, and removes plausible deniability. We measure, teach, and escalate until respectful systems are cheaper than abusive ones.

Mission statement

Make cognitive accessibility measurable, transparent, and irresistible to adopt.

We combine human narrative, structured scoring, and actionable guidance so ND users can trust the services they rely on—and so builders can see exactly where to improve.

Movement & framework

Punk Society is the cultural engine. It tells the stories, maps cognitive friction, and keeps the mission human. Think patch notes for culture.

Cognify is the standards body. It defines the Cognitive Friction Index, publishes audits, and certifies ND-friendly services so society ships with compatibility mode turned on by default.

Both halves feed each other: the movement drives demand; the framework delivers proof. We call out friction so the world can upgrade itself before we ever name and shame.

Operating modes

  • Public Watchdog — Anonymous stories highlight friction hotspots.
  • Consulting Network — Paid ND-led audits deliver remediation plans.
  • Hybrid — Community data informs pro audits; pro audits fund tools.

Design principles

ND-led by default

Lived experience steers research, audits, and certification.

Truth over theatre

Every claim ships with reproducible evidence. No receipts, no report.

Human + automation

People spot tone and stress; scripts flag consistency gaps. Both matter.

Grace before blame

We anonymise stories and invite organisations to learn before names ever reach the spotlight.

Transparency first

Scoring maths, audit methods, and conflicts of interest stay public.

Do no harm

Stories are consented, anonymised, and handled with care.

Iteration forever

The framework evolves as ND testers and clients surface new patterns.

Change we want

  • ND-friendly scorecards become table stakes across essential services.
  • Procurement teams demand cognitive accessibility evidence alongside WCAG.
  • ND testers get paid, respected work improving systems their communities rely on.
  • Reusable heuristics and scripts make audits fast without dumbing them down.
  • Policy makers cite our data to push for kinder public services.

Immediate goals

  • Publish a library of ND stories covering 10+ service types.
  • Define the Cognitive Friction Index rubric and supporting metrics.
  • Deliver pilot audits in healthcare, government, and finance.
  • Share a transparent playbook so collaborators can run audits without guesswork.

North star metrics

  • Services completing full ND audit + remediation plan.
  • Average improvement in CFI between first and second audit.
  • Volume and diversity of ND testers with positive feedback.
  • Organisations adopting ND scorecards in procurement or policy docs.

Accountability & promise

Society isn’t broken; it’s just running the base install. Our job is to ship the upgrade with enough guidance that everyone can install it. We start by sharing anonymous stories and practical fixes. Once Cognify standards are established and organisations have had a fair chance to learn, we’ll hold the stubborn ones publicly accountable.

We will roast bad systems with humour, but we fix them with compassion. Kindness, clarity, and recovery patterns are measurable—and they change lives when designers listen.
